Smith County Historical Society

Mission of the organization
Smith County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1959 to discover, collect, and preserve the history of Smith County, Texas. Membership is open to all interested individuals and orgranizations. SCHS holds monthly meetings with a guest speaker, distributes a monthly newsletter, publishes the awarding-winning "Chronicles of Smith County, Texas," operates a museum & archives in the historic Carnegie Library Building in Tyler, and is the official caretaker of Camp Ford Historic Park. SCHS gratefully accepts monetary contributions and donations of physical items that pertain to Smith County history, as well as appreciates the help of volunteers.
